Technology is great but people are stupid. I love the concept of the new iPhone X, but it has two major flaws in its facial recognition. The first is no matter what laws we pass, people still break it and look at their phones while driving. Having to look at your iPhone X to unlock it means, people who are driving will block their view to open it. This will cause more accidents and maybe deaths that could have been prevented. Now Apple does have a do not disturb feature while driving, but this has to activated by the user.
Then we have the fact that 1/3 of couples cheat on each other and when one of them is sleeping, the other will simply point the iPhone at their partners face and voila! Everything on their phone is there for them to read. Many people won’t think this matters, because the iPhone X is so cool, but every partner will use this to check on the other. Spying is human nature, trust is a learned behavior.
This becomes a problem, how big of a problem, we will find out soon. But my best guess is we will have a few murders over someone using the iPhone X to spy on their partner and finding out they've been cheated on. This won’t hurt Apples sales of it, as matter of fact it may increase the sales. Because as soon as a partner figures out they can spy, while the other is sleeping, they will go out and buy one to give as a loving gift.
